About us

Our Story

In the Chesapeake Bay watershed, where urban and rural landscapes intertwine, we saw an opportunity: why let healthy native trees go to waste when they could thrive elsewhere? Every year, volunteer trees—strong, resilient, and perfectly adapted to our region—were being removed simply because they sprouted in the wrong place. We asked ourselves: What if we could give these trees a purpose?

In 2025, Sembrar was born. What began as a pilot program with a handful of rescued trees and a community nursery has since expanded into a thriving initiative, replanting thousands of trees across neighborhoods. Our work is guided by the communities we serve, ensuring that every project reflects their needs and aspirations. From restoring riparian buffers to planting shade trees in underserved areas, we’ve learned that the most powerful solutions come from listening.

Today, Sembrar is more than an environmental enterprise—we’re a family of neighbors, volunteers, and stewards committed to growing greener, healthier, and more resilient communities. Every tree we replant is a testament to what happens when people come together with a shared vision: a watershed where nature and community flourish side by side.
